How to share a feedback form by QR code

Customer Support Engineer

QR code usage is growing each year, and with their mass adoption businesses can utilize their ease-of-use for marketing, and to collect feedback.

The appeal is simple: accessibility and speed. Unlike traditional surveys that require typing URLs, digging through emails or installing apps, customers can scan a QR code for surveys and respond on the spot, while the experience is still fresh.

As a result, engagement improves. A study on using QR codes for registration and evaluation revealed that 58% of respondents find QR-based feedback easier to complete than traditional, paper-based methods.

But how can businesses effectively collect this feedback? This is where online forms come in — they can easily be shared by QR codes, and clients' submissions will be structured and automatically stored for further processing.

Here's what you'll know:

How to share a Plumsail feedback form by QR code

First we need to make the form itself, and we'll use Plumsail Forms for that.

Download and use your feedback form QR code

You can download QR in two formats — PNG and SVG:

  • PNG is a widely adopted format, so you can safely use it in emails or social media, but the quality will drop if you stretch it too much.
  • SVG on the other hand is a vector format which can be scaled infinitely without any quality loss. It's an ideal choice for printing.

When and where to place QR codes for feedback?

QRs are very versatile in terms of display surfaces. Posters, stands and table tents are universal options for all kinds of scenarios — you can put one on a counter in a cafe or hotel, or place them in your store's return section, like IKEA did.

In some cases more specific options can be used:

  • If you have a restaurant, you could subtly suggest to participate in a survey by printing QR in a receipt.
  • For production businesses, QR-code on a package is a simple way to conduct a customer satisfaction survey.

While this post mostly focuses on business perspective, QR codes for regular surveys are just as good!

  • Post QR codes around the office to conduct anonymous employee satisfaction surveys.
  • Make a feedback form for extracurricular activities in school or college.

Note: Remember, the code you generated will always point to the newest version of your feedback form, so a lot of times you only need to print your QR code once!

Tips for using QR codes for feedback collection

  • Mobile-first. QR codes are usually scanned by phones, so make sure your web form is designed to work well on mobile! Plumsail Forms is responsive and mobile-friendly by default, and for more complex cases you can always create a separate mobile layout.
  • Keep it simple! Person's enthusiasm will drop proportionally to the time it takes to fill the form, so leave out any unnecessary questions, and keep descriptions short.
  • Motivate your customers. Sometimes your clients need an extra push to open a form. Offer a discount or a free item for filling out a form. Let them know about this deal beforehand — print the offer above a QR, or tell them about it when bringing a bill.
  • Printing. When printing, make sure the printed QR has high contrast, and avoid glossy materials — this will make scanning much more reliable.
