Register account and get API key

Plumsail Actions uses API keys to authenticate requests from Power Automate, REST API calls, and other integrations. Depending on your scenario, you can use different authentication methods to access SharePoint and Microsoft 365 resources.

This article explains how to create and manage API keys for each authentication type.

Register account

To get started, create a Plumsail Account and choose your data center location.

We recommend using an active email address, since your subscription will be linked to this account. The same account can be used to manage your Plumsail Actions, Plumsail Documents and Plumsail Forms subscriptions.

If you already have an account, simply sign in to account.plumsail.com.

Note

Starting February 16, 2026, Microsoft began transitioning SharePoint Online authentication to modern authentication. If you currently use SharePoint custom credentials in Plumsail Actions, you will need to migrate them to one of the options described below.

Navigate to the API Keys section and click Add key.

Plumsail Actions supports several API key types depending on how your workflows connect to SharePoint and Microsoft 365.

Basic

Basic API keys are intended for actions that do not require access to SharePoint or Microsoft 365 resources.

You can use them with actions such as Parse CSV, Regular Expression Match, and others.

Choose one of the authentication methods below depending on the level of access your workflows require.

Delegated

Delegated authentication obtains the permissions of a signed-in Microsoft 365 user, so it is commonly used for actions that require user context or interactive SharePoint operations. When creating this type of key, sign in with the account whose permissions should be used by Plumsail Actions.

The following actions require delegated authentication:

App-only

App-only authentication gives Plumsail Actions tenant-wide access without relying on a specific user account.

To create this type of key, sign in with a Microsoft 365 administrator account.

Copy and use API key

After creating an API key, its value will appears in the Secret column. You can copy it directly to use it in:
