No more support for Minimal Download Strategy?

by ClintLechner » Thu Oct 20, 2016 1:06 am

I noticed this a while ago, so this is not a new issue or anything, I just wanted to ask about it. Previously, Helpdesk and MDS worked together nicely. I know it's somewhat of a pain to work with, so I'm guessing Helpdesk is no longer MDS compliant. Not a problem at all, we usually turn off MDS but it was cool to see how well you guys implemented it.

Hi Clint,

We still support MDS, but we disable the MDS feature by default in SharePoint Online. I will describe why.

Microsoft broke MDS by some updates. There are some JavaScript variables, which are disabling MDS partialy on client side. After this update MDS started to behave really strange. It works on some pages and doesn't work on others. I can assume why. They added some constants which are disabling MDS on client side (JavaScript), but it is still enabled on server side (MDS Feature). So, when page is redirected by server, MDS works somehow, but if page is redirected by JS, it doesn't work correctly.

I think it is related to recent updates for new SharePoint user experience. I hope they will fix it.

Anyway we still support it. And you are free to enable MDS feature. But it can work incorrectly untill Microsoft fixes their updates.

Best regards

It was probably around the time modern pieces started popping up, you're right.
